\u201cThe Technology Rotational Development Program is a 2-year program that allows for flexibility through three eight-month rotations,\u201d explains Danielle. \u201cSo the person gets to experience different aspects of their field within BMS. The number and length of the rotations vary per program, but each 2-year Rotational Program gives someone who values exploration the ability to create their own career path. \u201cThe Technology Rotational Development Program is a 2-year program that allows for flexibility through three eight-month rotations,\u201d explains Danielle. \u201cSo the person gets to experience different aspects of their field within BMS. Responsibility and Growth within an RDP<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Bianca Payton, Manager of Information Technology, is a beneficiary of the program, having completed two of her three rotations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat this program allows me to do is to make my own career. It\u2019s why I love being at BMS,\u201d says Bianca. \u201cPeople are in charge of their own careers here and that\u2019s something I\u2019ve not experienced before. I\u2019m in contact with leadership while growing my career and growing personally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her work so far has taken her through Cyber Security and Business Development. And while she\u2019s still undecided about her third rotation, she knows it will contribute to her career development within the IT function at BMS.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhat’s most important is that I’m learning what the enterprise needs,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd I’m learning how to communicate corporately, having that corporate presence. These are experiences I get to have daily.\u201d<\/p>\n

Danielle adds her own perspective on the RDP and what it takes to get hired for a full-time position at BMS. \u201cThe goal is that each rotation builds on your strengths and what you want to get exposure to so at the end of the program, you have a clear idea of the permanent role you want to transition to at BMS.”<\/p>\n

Tips for a Successful Job Search<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Working within the RDP is one thing, but Danielle discusses the process to get there, especially matching skill sets to programs. \u201cEspecially check out our early career page on our careers site. Get familiar with our values and think about how you represent them; company values are often the basis of how the behavioral interview questions are written.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bianca\u2019s research was hands on, talking to interviewers at an MBA conference and networking. \u201cThrough research and speaking with them, I could tell they cared about me and wanted me to apply.\u201d<\/p>\n

Does she have some advice for other early career seekers who want to build rewarding careers at BMS? \u201cDo your research,\u201d says Bianca. \u201cMake sure that you\u2019re passionate about the work. No matter what your interests are, as long as you show that passion, that’s what’s most important.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interview and Follow-up<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Danielle adds that when networking or interviewing, \u201cIf I hear something I haven\u2019t heard before, that\u2019s what excites me, or when a candidate connects two dots from a conversation, then asks a question based on that\u2014I can see that they\u2019re thinking, not just asking the usual questions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The interview is a big part of the hiring process, but it doesn\u2019t end there. \u201cAlways send a thank you email the day of your interview,\u201d says Danielle. \u201cAnd don\u2019t forget to ask about next steps and timeline.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Flexibility of an RDP<\/strong><\/h4>\n

What\u2019s even more exciting about the RDP is the opportunity to work in fields that are adjacent to IT but aren\u2019t necessarily traditional IT functions. In Bianca\u2019s case, she experienced work within her rotations that wasn\u2019t the traditional IT work she\u2019d done in the past but was within her rotation\u2019s business unit.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust because it’s IT doesn’t necessarily mean it’s just IT,\u201d Bianca says. \u201cBecause I can work in business development and deal with mergers, acquisitions and diversions; but really, I’m working on strategic collaborations with digital health companies. It\u2019s a different side of IT. IT is not just technical at BMS.\u201d<\/p>\n

Danielle stresses the fact that there are \u201ccopious opportunities to learn and develop within BMS. Integral to the Rotational Development Programs are constant career path check-ins with your manager or mentor, so there\u2019s no question where you want to go.\u201d And not just within the RDPs; these check-ins and learning opportunities are available throughout BMS. \u201cWe have an enterprise LinkedIn Learning membership for every employee including summer interns,\u201d adds Danielle, \u201cand our People and Business Resource Groups (PBRGs) are constantly presenting and providing that learning and support to their member base, which is open to everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI do appreciate the PBRGs,\u201d adds Bianca. \u201cAnd the fact that BMS cares and puts the effort in. They want a diverse workforce and it shows.\u201d<\/p>\n

Create a Career You Love<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In a world filled with career choices for early career individuals, Bianca touches on her two biggest reasons to choose BMS. \u201cCome to BMS if you want to be in charge of your career and if you want to make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

As someone who deals with early career people day in and day out, Danielle relates the importance of loving the job you do. \u201cIn a world where we hear about workers dreading Mondays, if I can contribute to someone getting the job they love, that\u2019s awesome. I love telling people they got the job. What\u2019s better than that? Maybe \u2018here\u2019s your baby,\u2019 but I love those calls. And I always do it on Friday so they have a great weekend. That\u2019s the best part of my job.\u201d<\/p>\n
