A Story of Hope for Patients and Rewarding Career Opportunities in Neuroscience

How does a fascination with medicine and the human brain evolve into a career? For Ken Kramer, Vice President and Head of Medical Affairs, Neuropsychiatry Therapeutic Area at BMS, it comes down to one word: commitment. Ever since college, Ken has viewed the human brain as distinctly individualized, “the essence of what a person is and who they are.” This viewpoint drew him to work in neuroscience and psychiatry, and to a career in medical affairs—one that has spanned decades and taken him to some of the most prominent and respected global pharmaceutical companies. Having recently welcomed Karuna Therapeutics into our organization, we are fortunate to have Ken join us

From Intern to FTE: Building a Successful Career in Biomanufacturing

The magic of working at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) was in the air last year when a patient came in to tour the facility where the medicine that gave him a new lease on life was made. He had been given a terminal diagnosis and after exhausting nearly all his options, he had almost given up hope. A BMS cell therapy was his last resort, and after receiving the treatment made at the Bothell, Washington cell therapy manufacturing facility, he was given a second chance. My name is Mary Prasek, a Manufacturing Associate II based at the Bothell facility, and I have enjoyed a rewarding career at BMS since early

Intern to Full Time Employee: Jessica Netto’s Journey in STEM at BMS

My STEM journey began in high school when I took a bioengineering class, sparking my interest in the field. This led me choosing to major in Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). WPI’s project-based learning approach deepened my interest and provided valuable hands-on experience for future roles. During the summer of my freshman year, I joined an academic research lab focused on in-vitro disease modeling, led by Dr. Catherine Whittington. Dr. Whittington was an amazing mentor to me in STEM. She mentored me in planning and conducting experiments, provided me with numerous opportunities to present my research and offered career advice. I researched in Dr. Whittington’s lab for the

They may be situated on opposite sides of the country, but senior scientist Milan Patel in Seattle, WA, and senior manager Bobby Hewlett in Devens, MA, are of one mind when it comes to the dedication and passion they bring to their careers within Bristol Myers Squibb’s Cell Therapy division. Had You Considered a Career in Commercial Pharma During Your Academic Career?   Both spent much of their graduate education thinking that their future would continue in academic research. After working on PhD projects focused on early research, Milan found a different level of satisfaction in projects that focused on patient treatments. “I realized it was more fulfilling to do

Full Circle: A Senior Leader and Director Chose Manufacturing at BMS, Again

Did you know the average adult changes employers five to seven times throughout their career lifespan? The number of people who come back to an employer they previously left, however, is less than two in ten. While we don’t have hard statistics on boomerang employees at Bristol Myers Squibb, it’s certainly not unusual to come across them, especially at the leadership levels. Case in point being Lisa McClintock, Vice President and Lead for our Devens, MA Cell Therapy Manufacturing and Brad Harris, Director of Biologics Manufacturing Technology, also in Devens – two BMS leaders headquartered in our 89-acre multi-use campus that supports our biologics process development along with clinical and
